Integral Art, virtual exhibition hosted by the Integral European Conference 2020
ONLINE INTEGRAL ART 3D EXHIBITION 2020, INTEGRAL EUROPEAN CONFERENCE “This virtual Integral Art exhibition is the first of its kind and involves the artists who would have had their work physically present in Hungary at the Integral European Conference this May. Art exhibitions have been part of international Integral conferences since 2015 when an exhibition of 17 artist’s work from around the world was curated by art professor and philosopher Michael Schwartz at the Integral Theory Conference in San Francisco. Integral Art as a movement is very much in a nascent stage - only just beginning to emerge and loosely define itself. However, we do have some highly treasured writings to offer insight and a fertile ground for the movement to develop. To name two: Ken Wilber’s masterpiece “Integral Art and Literary Theory” and Michael Schwartz’s “Prolegomena to Art’s Transdisciplinarity” - an inquiry into the transcendental conditions of art. These texts are of tremendous significance. Art and philosophy have been deeply and profoundly linked for hundreds of years - strongly influencing each other. The artists of the Integral movement have a vital, essential role to play in the evolution of human consciousness. Perhaps some of the functions of Integral Art are: to flow, explore and evolve beyond the cul-de-sac of Postmodern Art with its pathological taboos against ‘meaning’ and the transcendental and spiritual in art. To open out the interplay of beauty, meaning, aesthetics, perception and interpretation in new, intelligent, cosmocentric ways. To seek out in ever higher, deeper ways the complex relationships between the intention and skill of the artist, the artwork itself as an object of power - capable of transmitting meaning and agency, and the viewer’s perception, experience and interpretation. Wilber writes that art is holonic in its nature, its locus, its structure, its meaning and its interpretation.”
